moving on in your learning

So you’ve started learning and you’re enjoying it and feel ready to move on. Where to next?

Community Learning

All over Glasgow there are learning sessions taking place, in community centres, libraries and learning centres. Anybody can get involved in community learning if they are keen to learn. You don’t need previous qualifications and it’s free. You will learn at your own pace in a small group with a tutor to support you. These sessions often have access to child care support or crèches so you can still learn when you have childcare responsibilities.

What types of things can I learn?

  • brush up reading, writing or number skills
  • computers and Information Technology
  • English for Speakers of other Languages
  • how to help your children with home work
  • budgeting and number skills
  • creative writing

How do I find out more?

There is a wide range of information and advice on community learning on the Learn Direct website.

For more information on learning sessions that focus on brushing up your reading, writing, spelling and number skills contact the Big Plus.

Learning sessions usually take place once a week and last 2 hours. How long you learn depends on your learning goals. Your goal will be broken down into smaller steps and at each stage you will get the chance to review your progress. In the review your tutor will look at your work with you to see how you’re doing and what your next goal will be. When you’ve reached your learning goal and feel it’s time to move on your tutor or a support worker can help you make the next step to further learning at college, training or work.
