Temporary Accommodation Standards

A debate is emerging at a national level between the Scottish Government and Shelter Scotland about standards in temporary accommodation.  At present, the position of the Government is that, while there remains room for improvement, the majority of temporary accommodation is of a decent standard and that the ongoing work to meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard in 2015 will ensure that progress continues to be made.

Shelter, on the contrary, argues that there remains a large amount of poor quality temporary accommodation that vulnerable households often have to live in for long periods of time.  They are calling for a joint Shelter and Chartered Institute of Housing publication on the issue to be used to develop statutory guidance for local authorities.
