Bell Street Stories
In late 2007, with the closure of the last of Glasgow's large-scale men’s hostels fast approaching, Glasgow Homelessness Network and Move On Ltd worked together on a project to record the experiences of some of the men who lived there.
Story-telling sessions were held in the hostel, and many residents took the time to tell us of their experiences of living in the hostel and their hopes and fears for the future. The accounts were collected in this book. It provides a unique insight into the closure of the hostel, told in their own words by those who were most affected by it – the men who stayed there.
In recognition of an important role in the social history of the city, copies of the book are held in the Glasgow Collection at the Mitchell Library.
