“Local solutions rely on their specificity, local ownership, and the ability of groups to tailor solutions to particular contexts. Local groups are also best placed to encourage community engagement on a social issue, through access to local networks and existing relationships”. ('Mass Localism': NESTA; 2010) In partnership with Glasgow's Community Health and Care Partnerships (CHCP's) and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Shared Solutions workshops are for people living in, working in, and using services in each CHCP area in Glasgow. They provide a mechanism for communities to act on social challenges, and offer a bottom-up and democratic structure to supplement central and local homelessness planning. The workshops provide each stakeholder group with a unique and equal opportunity to have a say on how priorities for local homelessness issues are found. As part of this work, in July 2009 GHN hosted a series of 'Shared Solutions Workshops' across the city. The workshops brought together a wide cross-section of people involved in or affected by homelessness - from service managers to service users and members of the local community. Working together in small groups, people were asked to identify issues relating to homelessness in their area and then look at ways of solving these issues. These events were a great success, and are being repeated in March and April 2010 to identify progress made, as well as issues and barriers which still exist. The dates and venues confirmed so far are:
