The group was originally set up in the summer of 2004 as a pilot project by Glasgow Homelessness Network (GHN) and 7:84 Theatre Company to use drama to highlight issues of homelessness. The group were fortunate to work with 7:84 for 3 years. When 7:84 ceased to exist, due to loss of funding,GHN took over the running of the group. GHN has continued to support the group ever since.
Unheard Voices first ever productions, "Nicole’s Story" and "Dougie’s Story" were performed at Lodging House Mission in August 2004. These two productions were performed to homelessness accommodation providers, day centres and hostels. This tour was a huge success and also helped the group recruit new members.
To date the group have devised 12 plays raising awareness on personal, social and economic issues. There is really no one that won’t benefit from a performance, and the group have performed to various services, conferences and events ...to schools, to policy makers, front line workers, people who use homelessness services, the general public and the Scottish Parliament.
